Engineered Oak Flooring Restoration in Residential Home

Floor sanding of engineered wood flooring in Wimbledon

Before the works…

The oak engineered wood flooring in this lovely Wimbledon home was overall looking tired and in need of renovation. During our free home survey, we evaluated the overall structural integrity of the flooring, noting areas that required immediate attention. After completing our inspection, we discussed with the client all possible options.

In the end our client decided to go for some minor repairs to begin with. These tasks usually involve simple hand tools and do not require significant structural changes. In this project there were a few superficial scratches that needed to be taken care of. Additionally, the client opted in for finishing the floors in clear matt lacquer.

We offer a furniture moving service to simplify the process for our clients, ensuring their space is ready for restoration without any hassle. In this property, the challenge was moving a large fridge. To manage this effectively, we had to work in stages, carefully planning each phase of the movement.

How we completed the project...

Our floor restoration service begins with a detailed inspection of the floors and any repairs to the repairs to the engineered wood flooring will be completed in this initial stage. In this project, we replaced approx. 50 sqm of flooring.

Engineered flooring planks come in three main thickness standards. The thickness will determine how much of the top layer of the wood is sandable.

Depending on the overall condition of the floors, the wood floor restoration may begin with a coarser or medium grit. The purpose of this stage is not only to remove the previous finish and expose the bare wood but also to ensure an even level across the entire floor. With engineered wood flooring, the level is typically good due to the "click" or "tongue-and-groove" locking mechanism between the planks.

The floors were then sealed with one coat of primer and two coats of Bona Mega water-based lacquer in a matt sheen. Between each coat, we performed a light screen buff to ensure an excellent final finish.
