What Is the difference between gap filling and strip filling?

Gap filling is part of our wood floor restoration services. It is common for gaps to appear between the floorboards or between the parquet blocks over time. The smaller gaps are relatively easy to ractify by the gap filling service, where a mixture of clear resin and saw dust, which is collected from the sanding process is used to fill in the gaps. Nevertheless, it should be noted that bigger gaps are trickier to fill. This is where strip filling comes to help.
Strip filling uses small pine slivers between the floorboards and goes together with resin & saw dust filler. While this is often an effective method, it is not ideal solution for larger areas as it can spoil the look of the timber floors.
Important note for both gap filling methods is that they are dependant on the solidness of the floorboards. Stability of both depends on absence of movement in the floorboards or in the joists that hold the floorboards. Therefore, gap filling for floorboards is excluded from the service guarantee of flooring companies.
Should I use varnish or oil for my parquet flooring?

Thank you for your question regarding parquet floor restoration.
Both, lacquers and hardwax-oils can be used to seal parquet floors. However, there are some differences between the two types of wood floor sealants that you need to be aware of before you make up your mind.
Wood floor lacquers are more hard-wearing and durable sealants providing long lasting protection for parquet floors. Theay are highly recommended for floors, which are subject to high level of foot traffic. Some popular products, which we regularly use for our parquet floor restoration services include Bona Mega, Bona Traffic, Loba Viva and Junckers HT700 lacquers. There are also solvent based varnishes on the market, which also provide a thick layer and higher level of protection. However, they emit strong odour and are therefore a less popular choice for residential properties.
In comparison, oil-based wood finishes such as hardwax-oils are less hard-wearing and require more frequent maintenance and recoating. However, they make the floors look and feel more naturally appealing. Some of the most popular products that we use for our wood floor re-oiling products include Osmo Polyx hardwax-oils.
Can bamboo flooring be sanded & refinished?

Generally speaking bamboo flooring is possible to sand and varnish. However, we would always aim to do a free site survey before we can advice on the state of your particular flooring and its potential for restoration. Because restoration of bamboo flooring require a fair bit of sanding skills and knowledge, we would always recommend the use of a professional floor sanding company like FloorWorks instead of DIY to ensure best results.

Do you do re-oiling of wooden floors?

Yes. We provide re-oiling / re-waxing services for wooden floors, with original oil-based finish.
We can also offer a site visit to assess if the conditions of the flooring are applicable for a re-oiling service, or if floor sanding and refinishing will be required instead.
Please be prepared with some photos as well, showing the condition of the floors.
Can I book floor sanding service while I am away on business or holiday?

While we do offer key collection and return service, we strongly advise that either yourself or a representative on your behalf is available when required for decisions related to colour, finish and furniture, which will require moving around by our team.
Also, please note that while we take all reasonable care to ensure that your property is safe and secure, we are not responsible for guarding your property, particularly when there are other builders on site.
