Whitewashed finish on wooden floors and how to achieve it?

Hi and thank you for your question regaring whitewashed effect on wooden flooring.
Achieving whitewashed / nordic finish on engineered oak flooring during floor restoration service with the use of either stains, lacquers or by using precoloured oil-based products. You need to be aware that there will be a slight difference in the appearance of the whitewashed effect depending on whether it has been achieved by lacquer or oil.
If you decide to seal your floors with lacquer, whitewashed effect can be done in two ways. You can either use white pigmented primer like Bona White, or you can first apply white stain on the sanded floors and then coat it with multiple coats of clear lacquer. For our wood floor restoration service where staining is involved, we rely on some of the most popular products such as Bona Create Ice, followed by the application of three coats of waterbased Bona Mega lacquer in either matt, satin or gloss finish.
If you prefer to achieve the whitewashed effect using oil-based products, then you need to be aware that this will achieve less uniform appearance.
Do you do restoration of stairs and banisters?

Yes, we would be more than happy to help with the restoration of your stairs and banisters.Bear in mind that stairs and banisters restoration is a more time consuming compared to restoration of other areas of wooden flooring as majority of the work needs to be done manually. It also requires a great deal of care and attention to details, therefore it is always a good idea to leave this to a rpofessional floor sanding company liek FloorWorks instead of trying to do it yourself.
Can staining be done on wooden stairs?

Yes, staining can be performed on any wooden flooring including stairs. Once the area is sanded to a smooth finish we can apply several samples of different colours on your stairs so you can choose the colour that best matches teh rest of your flooring.

Do you lift & dispose old flooring?

Yes, with our floor restoration service we can remove and dispose old carpets, vinyl, laminate or wooden flooring.
How many coats of lacquer are included in your service?

For domestic floor sanding services, we apply 1 coat of primer followed by 2 coats of lacquer. You can choose from the available sheen options, which are extra-matt, matt, satin, and gloss.
For floor sanding in public spaces (offices, schools, church halls), we use 1 coat of primer and 3 coats of high quality commercial-grade lacquer. Sheen options available are extra-matt, matt, and satin.
Extra coats are available upon request, but we do not recommend more than 5 coats, including primer.

How long does it take before the floors can be used again after sanding service?

During the restoration service, the floors can handle light traffic without disrupting the process.
During the sealing process, the floors can be walked on between coats.
After the final coat is applied, foot traffic can be handled after 2 hours for lacquered floors and (depending on air humidity / season) 5-8 hours for hardwax-oil.
Furniture should go back in place on the following day.
