• Can bamboo flooring be sanded & refinished?

  Generally speaking bamboo flooring is possible to sand and varnish. However, we would always aim to do a free site survey before we can advice on the state of your particular flooring and its potential for restoration. Because restoration of bamboo flooring require a fair bit of sanding skills and knowledge, we would always recommend the use of a professional floor sanding company like FloorWorks instead of DIY to ensure best results.

• Is it possible to sand and oil my 3-strip engineered wood flooring?

  Hi and thank you for contacting us regarding sanding, staining and re-oiling your 3-strip engineered wood flooring.

  The 3-strip engineered floorings come with 3 mm top layer of solid wood, which means that they can be sanded only once. So, the first thing that you need to do is make sure that your flooring has never been sanded before.

  Given that your floors would allow for another sanding, it is perfectly possible to change the colour of the natural oak by using coloured oils. A huge variety of colours are available from the Osmo Oils range, which we highly recommend and which we regularly use for our restoration of oiled floors services.

• Whitewashed finish on wooden floors and how to achieve it?

  Hi and thank you for your question regaring whitewashed effect on wooden flooring.

  Achieving whitewashed / nordic finish on engineered oak flooring during floor restoration service with the use of either stains, lacquers or by using precoloured oil-based products. You need to be aware that there will be a slight difference in the appearance of the whitewashed effect depending on whether it has been achieved by lacquer or oil.

  If you decide to seal your floors with lacquer, whitewashed effect can be done in two ways. You can either use white pigmented primer like Bona White, or you can first apply white stain on the sanded floors and then coat it with multiple coats of clear lacquer. For our wood floor restoration service where staining is involved, we rely on some of the most popular products such as Bona Create Ice, followed by the application of three coats of waterbased Bona Mega lacquer in either matt, satin or gloss finish.

  If you prefer to achieve the whitewashed effect using oil-based products, then you need to be aware that this will achieve less uniform appearance.

• How many coats of oil are included in your service?

  Our standard sanding and oiling service includes 2 coats of clear hardwax-oil or 1 coat of colour oil, followed by 1 coat of clear oil. Occasionally we can increase the number of coats depending on the timber species we are sealing.

  Extra coat of hardwax-oil is also available on request.

• Do you repair mosaic fingers parquet flooring?

  Yes, mosaic fingers are quite common assets in properties accross Shirley and very often they go through some repairs. Gap filling is always recommended for this type of floor after the repairs.

  We can also supply matching material, in case its missing.

• Is gap filling covered by your Service Guarantee?

  Gap filling with saw-dust and rasin filler on floorboards is exempt from our Service Guarantee.
