• Should I use varnish or oil for my original pine floorboards?

  Hi and thank you for the question regarding the choice of sealant for pine floorboards.

  Pine is soft wood and while it is possible to seal pine with both laquers and Harwax Oils, we would always recommend the use of hardwearing varnish when sanding and sealing this type of flooring. The reason for this is that pine tends to absorb oils, which means that pine floorboards sealed with hardwax oils will have lower level of protection and durability compared to those sealed with varnish. This is particularly the case where staining is required. Therefore we would recommend stained pine floorboards to be sealed with hardwearing varnish.

• Can you repair parquet flooring if blocks are missing?

  Hi and thank you for contacting us regarding parquet floor restoration and repair.

  We regularly restore and repair parquet flooring where blocks are missing or damaged. In such cases we always try to source reclaimed or new parquet blocks which match the size of the existing flooring. If the parquet blocks that you have sourced have bitumen residue, however, we would not recommend their use simply because removing the bitumen is a very difficult and time consuming thing to do, which makes the whole process of parquet floor restoration very expensive. Therefore, we would advise you to use new parquet flooring instead or to contact a professional parquet floor restoration company like Floorworks to do this for you.

• How many times I can restore my engineered wood floors?

  Hi Richard,

  There are 3 standards of thickness in engineered wood flooring - 20 mm, 18 mm and 14/15 mm. Each of those will have different thickness of top layer (oak, walnut, beech, maple, etc), which will vary between 3 mm and 6 mm.

  Every time engineered wood floors are sanded approx. 1 mm will be removed by the restoration itself, however another 1 mm should be allowed for difference factory defect difference and the level of the floor throughout.

  So, technically - 3 mm top layered floor can be sanded only once and a 6 mm top layer, should be able to achive 3 or even 4 restorations.

• What hardwax-oil products do you use for re-oiling?

  For re-oiling we use hardwax-oil and maintenance oil from Osmo, Bona and Loba brands, which are all available in matt and satin sheens.

• Can we have door bars & scotia beading replaced with our floor restoration service?

  Yes, we do supply and install matching the floor door bars and scotia beading.

• Can you supply matching flooring for floor repairs?

  In most cases when floor repairs are required we can supply parquet flooring blocks, solid wood planks, or engineered wood planks that are the same age and style to your existing floor. In cases where exact matches are not available, we may produce custom planks or blocks from the same timber material to match the existing flooring.

  If we cannot find the same product or material, we can supply the closest timber and do a close colour match with floor staining.
