• Can you repair parquet flooring if blocks are missing?

  Hi and thank you for contacting us regarding parquet floor restoration and repair.

  We regularly restore and repair parquet flooring where blocks are missing or damaged. In such cases we always try to source reclaimed or new parquet blocks which match the size of the existing flooring. If the parquet blocks that you have sourced have bitumen residue, however, we would not recommend their use simply because removing the bitumen is a very difficult and time consuming thing to do, which makes the whole process of parquet floor restoration very expensive. Therefore, we would advise you to use new parquet flooring instead or to contact a professional parquet floor restoration company like Floorworks to do this for you.

• Can you recommend hardwax-oil product for re-oiling?

  Hi James, the right product for regular recoating is maintence oil, which contains less solids than regular hardwax-oil products and therefore is easier to work with. However, re-oiling with normal hardwax-oil is absolutely fine and most popular and easy to work with products on the market are Osmo Polyx and Bona Hardwax-Oil.

  Bare in mind these are slow drying sealants (4-8 hours). Osmo offers a quicker drying version - couple of hours quicker, Osmo Polyx Rapid.

• What Is the difference between gap filling and strip filling?

  Gap filling is part of our wood floor restoration services. It is common for gaps to appear between the floorboards or between the parquet blocks over time. The smaller gaps are relatively easy to ractify by the gap filling service, where a mixture of clear resin and saw dust, which is collected from the sanding process is used to fill in the gaps. Nevertheless, it should be noted that bigger gaps are trickier to fill. This is where strip filling comes to help.

  Strip filling uses small pine slivers between the floorboards and goes together with resin & saw dust filler. While this is often an effective method, it is not ideal solution for larger areas as it can spoil the look of the timber floors.

  Important note for both gap filling methods is that they are dependant on the solidness of the floorboards. Stability of both depends on absence of movement in the floorboards or in the joists that hold the floorboards. Therefore, gap filling for floorboards is excluded from the service guarantee of flooring companies.

• Can I book floor sanding service while I am away on business or holiday?

  While we do offer key collection and return service, we strongly advise that either yourself or a representative on your behalf is available when required for decisions related to colour, finish and furniture, which will require moving around by our team.

  Also, please note that while we take all reasonable care to ensure that your property is safe and secure, we are not responsible for guarding your property, particularly when there are other builders on site. Therefore, please make sure that you discuss any particular arrangements with us in advance if you are planning to be away during a floor sanding service.

• Can you supply matching flooring for floor repairs?

  In most cases when floor repairs are required we can supply parquet flooring blocks, solid wood planks, or engineered wood planks that are the same age and style to your existing floor. In cases where exact matches are not available, we may produce custom planks or blocks from the same timber material to match the existing flooring.

  If we cannot find the same product or material, we can supply the closest timber and do a close colour match with floor staining.

• Do you offer services, which will be covered by my insurance?

  Yes. As a reputable and trusted wood floor sanding company, many of our projects come from insurance companies. We often place specific arrangements in place to ensure that from the very beginning of our projects there is clarity regarding who will be inspecting the floors once they have been sanded and sealed.
